There is it! Finally my first cattleya opened the first bud! I got this plant in Januaru and te plant was in very poor condition then (rooten roots, wrinkled pseudobulbs). uring the summer, It grew 5 new pseudobulbs and few weeks ago I saw 4 spikes growing from those new growths. I removed 2 spikes just to make the blooming easier for the plant. :D

Aleksa 11-13-2008 03:19 PM

Yes, it does, but only at the evening... Fragrance is sweet but not very strong.

Congrats Alaska its a beautiful catt.
I have a question if i may. How long does it take to go from sheet to bloom?

Anxious in Toronto:lol:

Aleksa 11-14-2008 08:41 AM

Thank you, thank you! :waving

Soonix, my name is Aleksa, not Alaska

The time from sheet to opened bloom varies, it depends on temperature. In my case, under optimal temperature plant needed a month to grow 2 spikes and open the flowers.

I am very sorry ALESkA:blushing: , i almost did it again. I am sure there is a member named Alaska or maybe short for Alaska girl.

I discovered about 5 sheets on my Iwan apple blossom, 1 on my prost Cochleata some where at the beginning of september and nothing still!:_( I decided to assume that they are waiting for spring. The plants look healthy and are producing serious roots and new growth in case of the prost cochleata.

Aleksa 11-15-2008 07:42 AM

Are the sheets empty? if they are than your plant is waiting for the spring. If there is bud growing, you should expect flowers before! ;)

I have a similar story. I bought my first Cattleya in December and it has just given me three awesome blooms. I hope this chilly front (40 deg. low) we've been having in S. Florida isn't going to be a problem. Input anyone?
