C. bowringiana

The beauty is from Central America and is popular here in Taiwan. It is a good parent to produce multiflora cattleyas such as C. Porcia and other numeous ones.

Lovely one, Pheli! I have one of these but not as large as yours. I will have to speak to it!

Nice one, Pheli! Tis the season and I love it!!

Thanks for the kind word!
It is an easy plant to grow and to bloom. I also have a blue form of this species that is in spike now. |
I don't have this one but do have the C. Porcia. The buds are out of the sheath so should open soon. I think the Porcia is more blue?

Are they calling C. bowringiana Guarianthe now?

Pheli, those are beautiful blooms. This species gets to be fairly large, doesn't it? And as far as the name Guarianthe goes, if you leave the cattleya label in its pot long enough, I'm sure the taxonomists will move it back (and then repeat the process all over again!). I'm still trying to figure out whether all of my laelias (both Mexican and Brazilian) are still laelias (perhaps they're all lycastes now :-). Congratulations on your fantastic plant.

Steve, this is a large species but my plants are only 30-40 cm tall.
As for the name, orchid lovers in Taiwan seem to like adopting the old names. But some recent registered crosses have labeled the new names. It still takes some time to get used it. |
