Mtssa Shelob 'Red Spider'

Here is another of my problem plants...problem because I've had so much trouble getting to stay alive....and to my surprise a flower spike! Not sure why "Red Spider" as there isn't anything red about it.

What a terrible problem! I think you should ship it to the west coast of Florida for rehab at my house ;)

Beautiful plant, Doc. A good save! I'm very pleased to see it because I have a young Shelob 'Red Spider" that was given to me and I have no idea what to expect in a bloom! I wonder if mine will have any red???

cupcake 04-23-2008 04:16 PM

Oh but it's beautiful!

BikerDoc5968 04-24-2008 07:24 AM

CB, I think I should ship myself back top the west cost of Florida..back to my home in Ft Myers!!!!! along with all my orchids....these winters are killing me and haven't done much for the orchids!
Shirly, aside from clonal differences and between plants and the age of the plant, yours should reward you with similar colors...I'm sure you'll post pics.

Here is my Red Spider's first bloom. The photo was taken in low natural light but I think the colour is very accurate and I'm very happy!

Hey Doc,
You've been holding out on us!! All those Phals have been hiding some other plants!!!

You did a great job with it, I'll never know how folks come up with some of these clonal names!

Cheryl, you've done a great job too! Sure wish at least one of my Mtssa's would do something!

My God. Oncidiums got a large family.

Chubidubi 07-21-2008 09:34 AM

AWESOME COLOR!!!

Don Perusse 07-21-2008 08:30 PM

I agree, where's the red? I think Shirleys is in all probability is the more true color. Maybe yours is a mix up or just different off spring/different parents. Still a nice orchid. Thanks for the show.

Now that my plant has been in bloom for several weeks the blooms are definitely getting redder all the time. Very interesting!

:)
