Phal re spike after 3 years.

Hi there OB,

I had my first ever phalaenopsis given to me as a gift in easter of 09 from a good friend of mine who is living in Austraila, she sent me another phalaenopsis for my birthday last year, and i sent her a dendrobium on her birthday, I've always took really good care of her orchids but could never understand why it was taking so long to spike but to my surprise i got up today and checked her orchid and i can see a little spike starting so i'm really over the moon :-)

I always said this phal was special to me and really wanted it to spike.

I have quite a few orchids in my collection now that have all spiked but my very first has took it's time but good things come to those who wait :-)

I will post some pictures when you can see the spike a bit better.

Can't wait to tell my friend it will flower again soon, her other phal she sent me on my birthday last year is flowering at the moment too :-)

I would love to know, how Australian "Fun Police" allowed flora to come in? With stringent guidelines they have here, how did it happen?

I ordered it over the phone in the UK and got a florist in Darwin near to where she lived to send it to her :-D

That explains it. The "fun police" are v.strict, I wasn't even going to try to bring back any orchids from Singapore when I was there, (unless they were flasked).

Hi there,

Here is an update on my spike that took 3 years :-) as you can see it's little "mitten" so happy about this, it's the only pure white with pink lip phal i have, it's been so long since i saw it's flowers.

:cheer: great news. I remember when you first got this and it does seem a long time ago now. How great that it's finally flowering :)

Hi RosieC, yes i remember you gave me good advice on how to look after them, This phal has always been special to me, when i got it i didn't even know what a Phalaenopsis was.

I might get another spike yet :-)

woo hoo! It's so exciting to find spikes (always!) but especially so when it's a plant you have had for quite some time without blooming :)
