It's wonderful when one of the "oldies" decides to put on a show. I have five oldies that I've had for five to seven years of which none had bloomed in two-three years due to neglect. Four of these are now blooming and and their spikes have continued their growth which makes me feel like a good Phal owner. :blushing:

wow 3yrs is a long wait for a spike they really do like to test our patience, thats why I have learnt to appreciate them when they are not in flower. Great growing the Phal looks very happy

You have a big specimen. I am excited for you. That lil nub is going to finally give you blooms after 3 yrs...strange because you have a healthy plant.

Cool! Looks very happy! Well done!

Just a thought :dunno: ... Is your lowest leaf touching the bark? If it is & it were mine I would put a tiny piece of styrofoam, wine cork etc so as to not leave the leaf in direct contact with the bark in the pot. (It's going to eventually start becoming yellow as is the oldest) but in my "weird thinking" I believe this would lengthen the time the leaf stays green. ???? :dunno: ???

Hi nenella,

The bottom leaves are not really touching the bark, it might look like that from the angle of the picture, the top layer of the bark always dries out pretty fast as i never like an orchid to stay wet for too long, i always pack the centre with packing peanuts too :-)

Hi there OB,

I haven't posted for a bit as i've been busy building a greenhouse in my garden, but just thought i'd post a new progress picture of my phal spike :-)
