Help, new shoot problem
 

Hi,
I noticed that my Onc. Sharry Baby's new shoot has a problem. When looking down inside the shoot I see the newest leaf dried out and/or brown...the rest of the shoot looks fine. I had it in an east window....could this be too much sun? (Ontario Canada, so sun not too strong yet)
or perhaps I may have accidentally got water down there? I usually only water around the base not spraying all over the plant.....
Anyway...my question is... will this shoot be OKAY? or will it die off now? Has anyone experienced this problem? Can another leaf continue to grow in it's place somehow? :(

That should not bee too much sun my Sharry Baby is in a south window and I'm down here in South Carolina.

How often do you water? What kind of humidity do you have? Can you post a pic of the problem?

Hi Neb, thanks for your reply. I will post a picture tomorrow when I have some bright daylight. In the meantime, do you think it will keep growing? Re humidity...it's pretty low right now, furnace is running almost 24/7 due to extremely cold winter this year.

Is this a flower spike or a new pseudo bulb? If it is a new bulb then I would be surprised if it didn't find a way to deal with it, a spike may have more of a problem.

It's inside the new pseudobulb. Here's some photos...sorry they are not too clear! It's the brown thingy inside the new p-bulb. I hope it does correct itself and continue to grow...that's really my question, will it keep growing?

That looks like damage as a result of water getting down in there and not drying out. It should be fine and keep growing. I've had that happen. Yours doesn't look bad at all. :)

Yeah it doesn't look that bad...I've had oncids that did this, and they kinda just grow around this bad part.

I get this sometimes on mine, Helen, and I strongly suspect not enough water. When in active growth, the Oncidiums and intergenerics demand high volumes of water. The evidence to me is the pleating of the leaves. I also supect the brown leaf will continue growing green if you up the water. Not misting, but watering. I use baskets, so the roots dry out on mine between waterings and I manage to water every 3rd or 4th day. Hope this helps.
