Well after almost a year of being VERY successful with the orchid pots when I watered two of the on Wednesday I saw that since last week the new roots that were fine touching the glaze shriveled right up and just broke off. Crap! So I called the store i got them from and couldn't believe what they said!!!!! I could take them all back for store credit! Holy crap! That's totally awesome! So before work yesterday I took them back and exchanged them for terracotta. I'm hoping the change won't be too much of a shock for the plants, or for me and how I water! I'm a bit nervous now that I have to learn how to water them all over again! I do plan on buying some bamboo to stick in them to see how damp everyone is. As of this am everyone seems very perky and happy, but it's only been 12 hours! So wish us luck! ha ha! I'll post photos later of the new set-up.
If any of you are following my other post abut my phal turning color I'm waiting on the AOS. They are very interested in this and want to find out what happened. It's turned into a huge thing! ha ha! I just hope it goes back to white next year! Of course my husband likes the new color!
So I'll keep everyone updated on the new pots and we'll see how everyone does.
As of today all the phals are in bloom (sadly I tossed one when re-potting it was horribly rotted, which is odd since the watering and pot is the same in all the phals and no one else has any issues at all. I haven't been too fond of it lately as the leaves have been acting funny too. so sadly this will be #4 in 6 years that I've lost.) But all the phals are in bloom, the new guy from the NYBG show is in full bloom and super happy in his new home! I noticed last week two new growths on the one catt (terra nova) and the others all have either some leave growth of roots growth. I am a little upset as I thought some of them that bloom in summer should be sending up some new leaves to spike off, but maybe I'm wrong with how they do this? I've never had these kind of chid before. They're encyclias if anyone knows when they do this please let me know! All the pbulbs have old dried spikes and I have no pbulb growth from them. Only roots. One of them LOTS of roots which is great!

Are these pots the "swiss cheese" pots? -- as someone dubbed them. It does seem odd that after using that pot type for almost a year that you now have trouble. As I recall from your photos, you have a lot of orchids planted in the "holey" type of pot. I'll be curious - I believe other posters in response to your success also claimed success with that type of pot. Others, not so much. Hmmm.

Yeah when I potted them up into them the roots weren't poking through the holes yet. The insides are not glazed, so any roots touching there were fine. But once they started growing through the holes and laying on top and hanging down two plants got affected. Not saying they all would have but I don't want to take any chances at any more unnecessary root loss. I guess I'd rather be safe then sorry. It could have been just those two pots, they may have been from a different supplier and the others would have been fine. But it made me panic! ha ha! The manager at the store was asking all kinds of questions since he said he knows nothing about orchids. We talked for a bit about the theory on these pots. I said all was fine until they started rubbing the glaze around the holes. I said I would keep them and put the orchids in plastic inside, but the roots will still grow out and touch the glaze at some point. I guess it's better even though I don't like them as much, since they cost 1/4 of the price as the glazed! Of course this means I have a bit of money to buy another orchid~!!
