I think your moving forward in the right direction. I am not a vendor frequent flyer due to the controvery of opinions and the badgering, as I like to be in control of my own decisions without help from others. Your altruism is overwhelming Marty your the best.

Marty,
On Dendroboard you aren't allowed to post negative feedback about a vendor. Probably because a few bad apples spoiled the bunch. Although I did have to send in a form to allow any feedback at all... I presume people do attempt to post negative responses, but the moderators delete it quickly.
There was a nice resource for reviewing orchid vendors once (run by a friend of mine), called OGRES. But he had to take it down after a couple of really bad sellers complained about their feedback and threatened to sue. They had no leg to stand on, of course. As long as content is not false (libel - "...publication of a false statement of fact, made with the requisite state of mind, that causes injury", courtesy of wikipedia), there is no problem. Truths are always permitted, regardless of how harmful. And, I'd imagine any libel would be the responsibility of the person who posted it, not the forum, as long as suitable disclaimers were made by the forum management.
I welcome both positive and negative feedback, myself. In fact, I value negative feedback a bit more than positive. As long as the negative feedback is justified, I treat it as a learning experience. I would much rather somebody tell me something was wrong than not say anything. Otherwise, how would I know to correct it?
I do think it is important for the customer and seller to have a conversation before anything negative is made public, however. Most problems are simple misunderstandings. Any problem I've ever had with a seller has been adequately resolved by a private e-mail.

Rob I'm with you 100% on this one. I also appreciate negative feedback - although I haven't had any as of yet.
the thing is that I just don't want to deal with the thought of someone suing OB or a member. I know that the second someone says that "ABC Orchids ripped me off - don't buy it" and if ABC is a member here, it will get ugly no matter what. I've seen some fights on Dendrobaoard when Joe Hickson was still running it and when neither of the parties compromises it's hell.
not sure where we going to go with this negative feedback stuff

I haven't placed my 2 cent opinion here yet, but I think a few things. I find negative opinions very necessary. I do NOT take just one opinion and write off a seller. It's also easy to tell the spirit a negative is written in. If a person is mean and petty, it's also easily written off.
I have seen many negatives for a few different sellers, and have come to write them off of my list. I have seen a few sellers have ALL raves and no complaints ever, and they are tops on my ordering lists. And all of the smaller people in between - if I know them from boards, I will try them and their plants without thinking twice. If I am completely unfamiliar with them, I will go to a trusted orchid grower and show them what I want to buy and see what they think.
As for where the board should go with negative reviews - this board has been one of the open ones that I enjoy the free flow of information. I would want to see well written not emotionally charged negatives - AFTER it has been dealt with between seller and buyer and has not been resolved. I think the moderators could have a disclaimer stating what is expected in a review and delete anything not up to those standards.
I think that if someone has gone thru all the right channels to resolve an issue and it has not been resolved, a well stated explination is appreciated and honest. We wouldn't be honest if there are only raves. And no one will be sued if it's all honest and not out to slam and acomplish nothing.
I could ramble easily but I think I can be finished now :c)

This is obviously quite late in the game, but getting back to Aloha Orchids.. I use them quite often as a wholesale supplier, and I have to say that out of the many thousands of orchids I've purchased and sold, so far they have sent me the best selection by far - ever. The plants are clean and healthy, and often absolutely gorgeous. A batch last week had two Cygnoches in it.. unheard of for a mixed budded plants! I have (hopefully) about 70-80 plants coming from them next week, and am very much looking forward to them! As with all growers, sometimes you get a good batch, and sometimes you get an average batch, and sometimes you get a bad batch. I have gotten alot of averages batches, but so far Aloha has not dissappointed me. They send good stuff, they send it on time, and they are very easy to work with! Just my 2 cents.

Welcome to the orchid board. I have not had any dealings with Aloah Orchids. Sorry. Is there a specific plant you are looking for?
