Hausermann's

I go to Hausermanns usually once a month, and I am never disappointed. It is so true if you haven't been and you are an orchid lover you are missing out! They have workers there that are constantly watering and repotting the orchids, I have never gotten any there from them that have rotten roots. I went there last week and I walked around for two hours, the place is that big and amazing! The staff is helpful and will answer any questions you have, they even repotted a bunch of my moms orchids last month for next to nothing. Their customer service is top notch! I'm never disappointed with anything I buy from there.

Me again - the Colts will have to go without me a few more minutes. The man who first mentored me, around 1978, was well off and ordered no less than 25 orchids at a time. He only purchased AOS award winners and it was not unusual to see a box truck unloading 50 - 100 orchids at a time. Any he did not think matched his standards he destroyed to make room for more. He gave me some of my first orchids and most were from Hausermann's. At the time I knew some of the salespeople by name and would deal only with the ones that my mentor used. He would purchase Dendrobium nobile from a Yamamoto Orchids in Hawaii, but everything else came from Hausermann's. He took me on my first visit to their greenhouse and we were treated like royalty; I thought this was due to the tens of thousands of dollars he spent with them. But, while I was there I noticed that the royal treatment was being offered to any walk-in regardless of prior purchases .
This man was a perfectionist and he would ONLY use Hausermann's for his serious orders. Also I remember that I had never seen a cleaner, more healthy plant stock anywhere; that still holds true. Phenom place!! It's kind of my Mecca - can you tell?
Just a footnote really, but more interesting Hausermann facts .

What I like is that they always have something different on offer. Now is really the best time to go !

I have found if I can eat a LOT of bologna sandwichs I can shop there. I have often had to choose between an orchid and lunch money, always deciding I don't really need lunch that much!

I monitor their website constantly. I've never ordered from them. I may have to. I'd love to visit them. And I'd love it if they came to the local show in Omaha at least once.

I'm kind of the same way. I hate buying things I need and hate putting gas in my car because I think "Oh, I could of bought some nice orchids with that money..."

I have caught myself looking at my grocery bill and thinking "Wow, I could have bought X amount of orchids with that amount". When you start calculate your spending relative to the price of orchids you know you are an orchid fanatic!

They do have great orchids. The 4 that I've still got from them have done good. I happened to kill one but I think I wasnt ready for it.

For the last few orders Ive gone with smaller vendors and have had just as good luck. Im about to place an order with Carter and Holmes so Im excited to see how they compare to Hausermanns.



PS. I've also bought from George and his orchids were great as well.

I've had good luck with Carter & Holmes, but select carefully as they often sell not-yet-blomin-size. In the summer months they usually have a special offer for 12 orchids for about $80. You can give them guidance but they choose the specific plants. This is how I re-built my Catt selection after I lost so many to rot in 2011 rains. but I'm still waiting for blooms.
