Orchids by Hausermann
Oh Come On... You all know how this post is going to go. However, given this is my first major online purchase without getting to see the product first, I thought I would enlighten everyone. Here was my haul or mainly Phal species or the like:
Phal amboinensis
Phal mannii x self
Phal violacea (Malaysia x var Borneo)
Phal heiroglyphica 'Egyptian lore' x self
Phal Cranberry Queen 'Regal' (venosa x Cherokee Chief)
Phal Fancy Free 'Scarlet Spring'
Orchids were in phenomenal condition. All really healthy, only a couple nit-picky comments from me, but here are the pics, and I'll let you judge!
We'll start with what I think was the loser of the batch. I knew going in the Phal. amboinensis would be small. The yellow leaf worries me, and it's sure to fall in a day or too, but roots look ok.
Another small one, that I expected, was the Phal mannii. However, was I pleased to see a brand new root and a new leaf coming up.
Now, every Phal violacea I've ever thought to buy has been on the puny side. This was not the case with this violacea. I really want the Malaysia cross for the coloring. New Root, already BS.
The Phal heiroglyphica I also expected to be on the small side, so I paid up for the larger pot size. Boy was I wrong, as this one was huge. New roots galore on a plant nearly 20" from leaf to leaf
The Phal Cranberry Queen was a gift for the better half (and I wanted a venosa cross) and not only was it in great condition is was in multi-branched spike! Even if the blooms are upside down, it was a better surprise for the wife.
Finally the Phal Fancy Free just looked cool, and it too was it multi-spike!
Overall, one of the best hauls I've had, and I'm sure to buy again! I'd recommend you share you addiction and wallet/purse with Hausermann.

Looks like a great haul! That yellow leaf on the 1st one looks like a natural leaf getting old. It looks like a healthy plant as do all the others. Hauserman is very reputable as far as I know. Enjoy your new chids!

Gratz on the haul!
I have ordered from Hausermann and been very satisfied but I have only gotten cattleyas from them thus far.
If your Phal amboinensis doesn't make it, Brennan's orchids has a humungous one for $25 in a 5 inch pot.
One leaf span is over 6 inches on mine.
I have a spike but the temp in my greenhouse dropped to 50 degrees one night a few weeks ago and I think it stunted it
....anyway, they are my "go to" internet phal people
PS. Any phal I have received as small as your first two picks usually died fairly quickly in my hands lol
That's why I get them "big".

I just went to hausermanns the other day, and of course I left with five new orchids, two phals, and three paphs. Everything I got is so beautiful!! It's such a treat for me when I get to go there and walk around, it's like being in orchid heaven!! Everything that I got was a great deal. I got a Lynleigh Koopowitz Paph. in bud for $19.99, I can't wait until it opens up. If you go there and know your plants, you can walk around and find some really good bargins. Love that place!!!

I'd love to visit Hausermann's. I've ordered most of my orchids from there and the plants I've gotten from them were always packed with care and came with a ton of healthy roots. I've yet to be any less than thrilled. I typically buy the tiny, cheap, years-from-blooming size but this last time they substituted two large blooming sized for the wee ones. They are really great. Maybe it is good that I don't live close enough to visit, considering I'd probably have no resistance. Some people want to visit Paris, I just want to visit Hausermann's. : )

If you want to see your next purchase from them this fall and take in some nice northern color, September is the Chicagoland Orchid Fest and they, along with three other greenhouses, have an open house where you can tour to your heart's delight. You're only 12 hours away. There's even a really nice, not expensive, Hyatt Hotel that is centrally located to all of them (Hyatt Place Chicago/Hoffman Estates 2750 Greenspoint Parkway Hoffman Estates, IL 60169, USA).
This year it is the weekend of September 23rd

Hauserman's has always sent me good quality plants. I have had a problem with snow mold in their medium so I always repot plants from them immediately. They also should really think about updating their tags. Phal. violacea var. borneo has been Phal. bellina for at least 5 years. Phal. violacea x Phal. bellina = Phal. Samera The ambo looks fine to me. The newest leaf is much larger than the others which is an excellent sign. Phal. mannii is just little by nature. It will never be a huge plant.
They all look really good. You should be pleased.

Well luckily I've yet to get any sort of mold in the media. However the Phal ambo did get a visit from our golden retriever. I hope it make it. I'll keep you all posted as they grow if you want. PS I just noticed that the Cranberry Queen is in double bud. Who's excited?
