Exclamation Aloha Orchid No More!

Hey all how are you! i know there have been some mixed feeling on Alohaorchid but mine are mixed no more! I am no longer buying from them ever! I just got a seemingly nice vanda in bloom from them and there were considerable roots on the surface of the pot and i was happy. but then i looked at the medium and i was concerned, but the plant looked fine so i didnt worry. then a 2 or three weeks went by and i noticed the plant seemed to be tilting in its pot . so i am like what the heck is going on?!

So i say lets look at the medium and i noticed it was badly decomposed coconut husk and some kind of mush

So i went to my local nursurey and got repotting materials
Today i repotted it to find when i turned the pot over that the roots in the pot were mush! all of them that were in the pot. and they made a splosh sound when they hit the ground. the only good roots were the nice looking ones on the top and outside the pot.

The roots in this pic were all that there was the good looking roots outside the pot.

only that ring of roots circling the pot is not rotted

Ive have only had this plant for about 3 weeks maybe 5 that is not enough time for all the roots to have rotted in my care!

This is the 4th time i have ordered from them and the first two had the same prob the third plant i got from them is the only one that was sort of fine!
I will never order from there again!

They have an excellent selection and really cheap prices! but they lack quality! Seriously

i wish that i repotted on receipt.

Root rot is the reason I have never had any luck growing vandas in a pot , always basket or just hang from a wire.

ditto the hanging basket for vandas, they just dont do well in pots, they need air around the roots....so sorry about your experience with aloha, i have had good luck with everything i have bought from them....but i repot everything on arrival, i dont like the volcanic ash and pumice they pot in....carmela pots in the same substance and it just doesnt work for me...

Thats what that stuff was? it was disgusting! i thought it was in lava rock at first because it has the same gritty texture you know but it was powder. I think that Aloha is hit and miss like Norman's orchids. For me i have ordered from aloha about 5 times and all but one of the plants from them have had the same root rot! i thought it was my horrible growing skills cuz i ordered from them when i first started growing orchids and didnt know any thing so i thought it was me but know that i have 8 years under my belt and can grow and bloom them on my own i know now that it wasnt me! it was aloha! what are the odds???
well it seems to be dong fine now and we will see!

I will not order from them again either it was last year when i ordered but the horrible condition the plants had been in is still evident on many of them. Some of the plants even had stowaways in with them nothing too bad but mostly bugs that eat the decomposing vegetable matter but one came with botrytis on it when i told them what I had found they said it was normal for the leaves on that Onc. to spot like that. I kept that plant separate from everything else in a dry location but the plant never got any better new leaves would grow but the bot would get the new leaves too, I finally gave up and threw the plant out.

If the plant was a Sharry Babe spots are more or less normal almost all of them get them, some just call them freckles .. Gin
