I haven't had a sunny day in I don't know how long, so there's not much going on in terms of new growth. I did notice something interesting though. The vanda has created 10 new root tips that are at least 1 inch long, but at the same time it's killing off some of the old roots for no reason. They are looking healthy, then just turn yellow, shrivel and die.

It's like it's creating roots that are more specialized for its new environment which I guess is much more humid than he previous one. Older roots are thick without much branching while the new ones are much thinner.

I also live in a tropical country and grow all of my orchids, including Vanda outdoor. Most of the Vandas are hung without any medias, in rectangular pots. Some are attached to fern blocks or wood logs.

They're watered in the morning and afternoon when it doesn't rain. They get almost full sun and full rain. I only collect lowland species though, and off course easy-and-diligent-to-bloom-hybrids

Here's my Pachara Delight. I think yours will be very happy outside. Give it a few years and it will get absolutely huge

Wow that's a huge Vanda! Did you start from one and never split it?

It's like the spirit of the violets growing on the ground soaring up from the Earth.

Vandas will do fine for 2-4 days without water, as long as they get watered regularly most of the time.

To make them really happy, you can get battery powered electronic controllers, which you install on the water faucet. Then attach a hose with a sprinkler near the plants, and you can sprinkle them daily for 5 or 10 minutes, even when you are not there.

That's amazing! I think I saw your vanda on a youtube video a couple of months ago. How old is it? Is it just one plant?

I got a great deal on a bigger Pachara Delight, so I ended up mounting the big one on the same tree the small one was and brought the small one inside.

The mounted one has been outside for 3 weeks now and is doing perfectly fine. I was out for a week and it got really hot for a day or two, but it didn't show any signs of stress.

Hi everyone,
I thought it would be interesting to post an update.

I ended up buying a bigger vanda in december, which I mounted and it's been doing great, even better than the one I have indoors.

I did try to water it if it didn't rain for more than 4/5 days, but that hardly ever happened. We had a hot spell during summer and I was worried it would damage the plant, but it didn't seem to mind the heat at all.

It lost some of the roots it came with and it took forever for it to show new root growth, which only happened about a month ago, when temperatures started dropping.

Other than that it is looking great and is producing its 4th new leaf. No flowers yet, but I'm patient!
