I thought the AOS required that the grower have it for at least six months before it was award eligible?

No you must have the plant for that period for a cultural award, not a flower quality award. Also I indicated that the honours go to Glen on the form.

Just took a few more pics today in natural light. The translucent grey blue really stands out.
The dark blue 'T' bar makes a nice contrast.
The other 125 buds should open by the end of this coming week. That time the plant will explode in blue color!

That is correct Ryan. I brought the plant in to the judging and told the judges that I only owned the plant a couple months and that the culture and flowering was due to Glen's great growing. That is why it wasn't considered for a cultural award eventhough this plant outflowered all previous awards. The reason I think it was awarded the CHM was to sort out the confusion of the identity of the species, whether it was a merrilianum (like all the other awarded plants) or gokusingii (which is what the recent studies are indicating).

Yes there has been confusion between the 2, beautifully grown, not surprised they skipped a regular quality award HCC - FCC also, being that the plant is still green (not over halfway point of flowers open)

If all goes well, next year the plant will show it's potential with the right identity.
