Default Rhynchostele rossii - finally flowers!

Been waiting on this one for quite some time - sound familiar?!? - Growing orchids definitely will teach one patience.

This is the first time flowering for me....

Hi shakkai
Wonderful flower. Glad it finally bloomed for you. Don't forget to post more pictures of the spike when all the flowers are open.
I have Rhynchostele bictoniensis. I think it will be awhile till mine blooms but I'm looking forward to it. Honestly I can't wait, hopefully the flower spike will fit in my window. Yes I agree - growing orchids does teach you patience. But it's always worth it.
Hope it just gets better for you.

Thanks so much Liz! I will be sure to post a better photo when it is light out tomorrow - and hopefully another flower is open. I was just so excited to see this open when I got home. I couldn't wait to photograph it.

I have Rhynchostele cervantesii also - both mine are minis. The cervantesii is the one that I mounted onto a rock - a la the thread: Rocks + Orchids = Art.
There is the beginnings of a spike on it, but its still a long, long way off....

Shakkai that is definitely a cutie, but patience? What is patience I check my buds daily and think "hurry up and bloom! and try my hardest to keep my paws off of 'em!

I have a few plants that have never bloomed after several years and a few that have bloomed once in the same period. Growing orchids definitely tests your patience!

Becca, I've been out there for weeks, several times a day, talking to this guy saying 'hurry up' or 'come on, open!' - and that's only after the buds had got nearly fully developed!

This one was taken 14 days ago...

Phantasm, yes, you're right. I have purchased young plants and seedlings that I know are years away from flowering. Somehow, I can wait for those - or at least it is easier... but once I see buds, the excitement builds!!

Gloria, the bulb + leaf of this one is no more than 4" tall... its such a cute little plant - and the cervantesii is the same with really cool four cornered bulbs, and scented flowers. They are both cold to cool growers.

Cheryl - spot on! Knowing a flower is about to open - especially one like this that is flowering for me first time - I can get pretty obsessive. Fortunately, this one is growing in my kitchen window, right by the sink. So every time I needed to do dishes I could stand there and 'examine' its progress - and, of course, tell it 'come on, open already!!'

Some better photos... The second flower has now opened, but they are so widely spaced, its diffifult to get them both in a photo!
