immerse the whole plant overnight in a pail of water with fertilizer and add to it if they have seaweed mix....next day the root tips have to be wiped with cotton balls dipped in hydrogen peroxide to rule out fungus infestation

what do you mean by chafing the root tips pls ? if you have ariel roots and you cover them with spaghnum moss for added humidity but then you discover that the nice green tip has turned brown and shrivelled what could that mean ?

chafing=rubbing the root tips against a rough surface or the glass =to create friction that damages the root tips

but I dont think this is the main problem.
I think it might be a fungi infestation or too much fertilizer cristal deposits on the roots

the fungal thing is all new to me its quite recently that i have tried to give it another go with vandas after failing miserably for a couple of years. in fact i consider myself as a rookie if its fungus how can i treat it pls ? as regards the excessive fertilisation issue i have a renathera , a ryhncostolis gigantea and two odd vanda hybrids under the same regime and they do not seem to mind that much apart from the sweltering heat we have at present in malta

thanks

Just because the other plants are not being affected doesn't mean it couldn't be fertilizer burn. Every plant has its sensitivities just like people. Some plants are just more sensitive than others.

Could we see pictures? That would help to determine if it is fungal, fertilizer burn, or something else. If it was fungal I would think you would see fungus or mold. I bet it is from salt build up.

Bud- If it is fertilizer burn soaking the roots in fertilizer will only make it worse. In my experience when root tips do this it is from fertilizer burn, salt build up, or damaged root tips from mechanical damage.
