Asconopsis Irene Dobkin spiking?!?!?!?!?!

So my 3 Asconopsis Irene Dobkin (Asctm miniatum x Phal Doris) suffered almost complete root loss in the spring, but have been recovering, growing plenty of roots, and slowly growing new leaves since (it's a slow grower anyhow). Soooooooo, I noticed the other day a bulge at the base of one of the leaves of my bigger plant, and this morning noticed it has just barely broken through the base of the leaf. I can barely see a tiny bit of velamen in the crack, but this isn't an indicator of root vs spike because it seems that a bit of velamen develops around the base of some of my Phal spikes. I will have to wait and see, but I really think it's a spike! Cross your fingers with me!

I just looked that one up on the internet. What a fantastic colour! Kind of peach-orange with a red lip.
I want one!

I thought that your avatar must be it. That touch of yellow and red in the centre gives it pizzazz, and it even has freckles!

Well, it's certainly the right time of year for spiking on that one - so fingers crossed!!!

I wonder if the asco that the phal was crossed with was something like Suksamran spot. It is orange-yellow with spots.

It is Ascocentrum miniatum. No spotting, only varying levels of inconspicuous veining. I would think that Phal Doris is where the freckles are coming from. Also, Phal Doris varies from white to different shades of blush.

That makes sense. A lot of ascos get orange from miniatum. It think Suksamran may as well.
