Default V Mary Foster

Vanda Mary Foster (Vanda merrillii x Vanda sanderiana)

This vanda came to me recently from a friend. The only info I've been able to find on it is this:
it was registered in 1945 and was awarded once on 1/1/61.

I was originally going to cut off the top part and just let the two large keikis grow...glad I didn't get to that task

You can never be certain about getting two keikies by lobbing off vanda in the middle. Sometimes you do see a few swellings but one takes over vigorously and rest remain aborted. Normally vandas offsets only when they get too tall and leggy. As for the flowers of Vanda 'Mary Foster', it is an old hybrid showing disproportionately large lateral tepals, hallmark of V. sanderiana. Subsequent hybrids, three generation after, supressed this feature to get a more rounded, overlapping flower parts. Try to get hold of T. Orchids catalogue(Thailand) you will see what I am talking about.

There's more than just some swelling for the keikis...those two large plants in the bottom of the basket are what I'm talking about

I really appreciate your info on the history of this plant...it's been near impossible to find anything!

I stand corrected regarding the status of you vanda and thank you for the same. I must compliment you for possessing such a good specimen. However, my observation about vandas offsetting was more general in nature.

If you ever divide it, and want to trade for something, let me know!
