Paul, the fragrance is very strong, especially on warm and bright days. The blooms also last much longer than Rhynchostylis gigantea's flowers (around 6 weeks in good condition). It likes the same warmth, high humidity and lots of water as other vandaceous plants; however, in my experience it likes much less light than your typical vanda (maybe a little brighter light than what phalaenopsis appreciate, but not anywhere near what a cattleya can handle, let alone a standard vanda hybrid). You're right, though, in that the Rhy. gigantea parent does pass on the genes for large plant size. Still, it's worth the extra space for those wonderfully scented blooms.
