Default Aerides odorata

Easy to grow and bloom Southeast Asian species that has a widespread distribution. The flowers smell strongly of lemon, especially now that the summer growing season has arrived (miserably hot and oppressively humid).

I'm keeping it in a clay strawberry pot (also commonly used for herbs), with no medium around the roots. The roots are produced freely, and I train them by wrapping them in flexible plastic ribbon once they're around four inches long and slowly start to pull them toward the pot, where they eventually either adhere to the outside or inside clay surface. Yeah, it's not the ideal method of growing this species, but I've got to do what I can to try to keep the weedy thing from aggressively invading the pots of its neighbors.

Steve
