Default Vanda "Fuch's Delight" sunburns for almost no reason

I have a Vanda "Fuch's Delight" who gets sun burned SOOOO easily. It likes the same light as a Phal almost! It needs full shade and doesn't like ANY direct sunlight like some of my other vandas.

Does anyone else has this problem?

I can't say for sure.... I don't have any of those, but that does sound very strange. Maybe a bump will help get your question answered.... Good luck!

when did you start seeing these "sun burns"? could it be cold, wind burns? Do you have a picture of it? for ALMOST no reason?

no windburns, i dont have a camera at this moment. just cannot take any sunlight. no windburn. humidity is fine...Louisiana humidity/warmth... it is very sensitive to too much light and almost instantly (with in a day or less) it will show you.

I just wanted to see if anyone had a Vanda that had this problem.

Ill post pictures later when they come available.

I don't know fuchs delight is grown all over this area in the SE and they love sun.
None of my vandas have his problem but maybe there are some that don't like a lot of sun or are more sensitive but they shouldn't be a fuchs delight. Sorry Im not much help . good luck

I was thinking the same thing. If you have been spraying it against rot/insects/whatever, some products don't react well with light and 'burn' the plant. I discovered this on a plant(non orchid) outside this summer. Sprayed it in the evening, and the next afternoon it looked burnt.
Did you try getting it used to bright light very gradually?

Ahhhh good point any treatment left for the sun to cook could burn it or any other orchid type.

Hi Patrick,

I'm not aware of this particular hybrid having a sensitivity to sunlight; however I did think of something that might suggest what the problem is.

If you had your plant in a relatively shady place for a while, and then moved it into much brighter light without acclimating it, this may be the cause.

Along the lines of bug treatments that could cause the plant to cook in high levels of sunlight...this is often the case with oil based insecticides such as Malathion and others. If you are using one of these type insecticides, be very careful with sun exposure afterwards.

Good luck.
