I used to keep some of them, but a super cold front several years ago killed them.
The flowers from the mother plant were not what I would consider round and they almost glowed in a blend of colors ranging from pink, peach, & yellow. That is if I remember correctly. They were so beautiful. It made you feel good just to gaze upon them. I don't recall if they were scented, but they sure were pretty.

Congratulations June !!! I can't wait to see those blooms. Keep us posted on the progress of the spike. And whit those colors; scent or no scent is doesn't make too much of a difference. I'm sure that it will look gorgeous !!!

Finally, finally, I found something to get excited about. I don't know how long this small spike will take to mature and bloom. I've included a photo so you can share in my Joy.
I'm getting frustrated with this Vanda. She just keeps holding out on me. By all appearances the plant is in robust health with adequate sunlight (about 6 hours E/SE a day) and good leaf color. This season the top part of her stem as doubled in thickness and she's grown 4 new leaves and probably 8 new roots. She's had 2 mystery bumps or Nubs that never developed into anything. A few weeks ago I was so excited to see her first real bloom spike emerging but then it stopped growing. Now it appears as though there is either a root or another spike forming on the opposite side of the first one. It's looking more like a spike than a root and it's now the same size as the first spike. I don't know if I should waste any more adrenalin on excitement. Here is yet another photo of the latest progression of my most exasperating plant.

Don't give up on her Junebug. I think they (both) look alot like spikes too. I always feel like my Vandas are taking forever to make the bloom spikes as well, while the roots grow so much faster. Good luck and keep us posted!

Woe, I know that is frustrating but luckily for you there are more orchids in your yard to look at in the meantime so there are different stages all around you. Besides if they all did what they were supposed to do when they were supposed to, it would be boring.no? LOL maybe not, I like the stubborn ones though they are incredibly rewarding when they finally give it up.

Default Here a Nubbin There a Nubbin Vanda Update

This Vanda began producing small bloom spikes near the end of July. They get about 1/2" long and go into "stand by" mode. Today I noticed a 4th nubbin. I'd love to get excited but I'm afraid they'll all begin blastin instead of bloomin.
