Rhy gigantea season
Rhy gigantea is in my top 5 of favorite species. Rebuilding my collection, I currently have 8, of which 4 are spiking. I took photos of the first two today.
I also have a number of intergeneric hybrids with Rhy gigantea in the background. Notably Van. Azure (x V. coerulea), which is also shown here.
Van. Pinky (x V. falcata) will bloom in another 4-6 weeks. I have 4 of those, so photos will follow.

They all look excellent. Is the Azure hybrid fragrant, or did the scent from Rhynchostylis gigantea not carry over?
I'm curious about your comment about rebuilding your collection. What caused you to have to rebuild it?

In Dec 2017 my landlord (rented greenhouse) allowed the propane to run out, while it was 18F outside. I, and 3 other growers, lost everything (in a crowded 1200 sqft greenhouse).

That's awful, Kim. I can't even imagine something like that happening. I'm glad that you appear to have had some success in acquiring a number of great-looking Rhynchostylis giganteas. After experiencing what you did I may have been tempted to try something else for a hobby. Best of luck to you as you continue rebuilding your collection.
