Neofinetia Bulihwan

Just received my second order from Barampung, the Korean Neofinetia commercial grower with no shipping temperature damage this time.

All of the plants, with the exception of the N Bulihwan, were ordered for their blooms so I will post for them once they flower.

The Bulihwan attracted me for its vegetative appearance, thick leaves on a small plant. I have tried to locate pictures of its flowers but have been forced to rely on Korean websites by entering copied Korean characters into perceived search boxes. I once obtained a flower picture but am not going to include it here since I am not positive it is Bulihwan. The flower pictured was strange with round tepals and prominent pollinia.

A beautiful little one! I’ve not seen this one before, it reminds me of my Oomusou. The thick almost cupped leaves are very attractive to me. Love these beanies!

Bulihwan is supposed to get pretty much identical flowers to a standard Tamakongo. (Bulihwan is a short leaf clone of Tamakongo.)

About 2-3 weeks for export paperwork preparation. Typically 3-5 days from shipping to delivery via EMS from Korea to the US, if you follow the rules that allow you to bypass inspection/quarantine. If your package gets flagged for inspection, add another few days.

California residents have been experiencing some additional delays in shipping lately though, possibly due to stricter import regulations imposed by the state.

About 2-3 weeks for export paperwork preparation. Typically 3-5 days from shipping to delivery via EMS from Korea to the US, if you follow the rules that allow you to bypass inspection/quarantine. If your package gets flagged for inspection, add another few days.

USDA APHIS | What Plant Material Requires a Permit?

Basically if it needs a permit, it needs to be inspected. You may import plants without an import permit and without the shipment being inspected or quarantined if:

• The import lot consists of 12 plants or fewer.
• The plants are shipped bare-root or potted in an approved medium.
• The shipment is for personal use only and not meant to be sold for profit.
• The species is cleared for import.
• The species is not listed in CITES Appendix I

Other than those regulations, ALL imports inspected or not require:

• A Phytosanitary certificate
• CITES Export permit from the originating country if applicable (all orchids other than a few explicitly permitted common species/hybrids and flasks)

However, if even if all of these conditions are met, there are certain cases where your shipment may still end up being inspected, and there have been cases where all of the rules have been followed and the inspection center still forced the importer to apply for and pay for the import permit nonetheless.

Also important to note that this is federal law, and if your state's laws are stricter, you must follow the state's procedures.

It's doing well, but slow growing so far but that may be because of the season. A new leaf is just peeping through.
