Beautiful colors on both plants. I keep resisting the hybrids and I may just have to try one. If I were to give one a try, I would like one with growth similar to Neofinetia, rather than a tall plant. The color is certainly an attraction.

Patty, Cherry Blossom is a cross of Neofinetia falcata x Vanda ampullacea. There are two color variations, the one pictured is crossed with the regular Vanda ampullacea. There are Cherry Blossoms that are on the purple hue, those are crossed with Vanda ampullacea var. alba. This grows larger than the biggest Neofinetia.

Renantanda Sunrise is a cross of Neofinetia falcata x Renanthera imschootiana. This plant is considered a 'miniature' but certainly larger than Neofinetia. But since both parents are on the smaller spectrum, if the size of the plant is a consideration, this is the one I recommend.

Matt, thank you for the information! I enjoy the colors, just really don't want a tall, lanky plant. The Cherry Blossom pictured is gorgeous. If there was a nice chunky clumping hybrid I would love it.

I'm thoroughly enjoying growing Neofinetia and I've had a few flower, several in spike that should open within days. My Shutennou is so close and I'm in hopes it will have good color. I will say, there is something about pure white flowers that I find very attractive with these plants. Again, thank you for your advice!

Matt- I don't think your information is correct.
Let me share what I know and you can tell me what you think.

The most commonly known type of Cherry Blossom is made with the regular Ascocentrum ampullaceum, which has a intense hot pink or fuchsia, and a great example of this the Carmela clone, which I think is the most commonly available mericlone in the market.

Mine was made with "Chinese strain" or orange colored variety of A. ampullaceum, hence the color, which is not exactly orange but similar hue.

I have not seen any that was made with A. ampullaceum alba, and it is purple??

With regard to the plant size, it is generally larger than typical neofinetia, but your statement is rather confusing and incorrect.

The largest Neofinetia is Amami Island strain, and it can get quite big for neo. Mine is a little over 9 inch from one leaf tip to the other.
None of Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom I have is bigger than this.

I can say one thing. Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom does get taller faster than Neofinetia.

Renanetia Sunrise gets tall fast like its Renanthera parent. While the width of the plant isn't that much, at least mine is very short while I have seen others whose plants were quite wide, it does get tall fast. So it still doesn't necessarily take up much space, but just lengthy.

There are things like Baby Angel, which is a backcross of Neostylis Lou Sneary on to Neo, which can grow in the similar size to a small to medium sized neo.

Neostylis crosses in general come out rather small, especially a mericlone like 'Starry Night'.
