Neofinetia falcata. var Chouko or Chokko
I had a 6 growths plant but divided them to sell last year and was left with a mother growth plus one baby. The mother growth finally bloomed with two spikes but first spike's flowers collapsed prematurely (environment causes?) but the second spike just opened nicely. Thought I'd share the flowers before it decides to follow the first spike ... This is made by crossing the red falcatas, so is still within species parameters ...
Dark cerise blooms with contrasting white lips with neo perfume in early morning that dissapears during day, only to reappear the jasmine light scent at dusk.
Grown with all other neos in 40-60% shaded south loft windows. Watered when dry and feed lightly during root growth. Reduce water and temperature in winter.
Hope your like the color contrast! Because I do!!

Those are lovely flowers. Glad to know they have retained their fragrance, Lesley!

I love the neos but these flowers are really perfect! Not only are the color and form amazing but that it also is fragrant is even better. Thank you for sharing!

I just got one and I am also an inside grower, could you elaborate on how you take care of it? Just beautiful, I think mine is white though!

Thanks all!
Neos grow in all settings BUT it likes to dry in between! That's the secret!

Hy NC,
This is actually a hybrid Neofinetia, with Ascocentrum in it's "blood-line" There are no red Neofinetia's. These are all back crosses from hybrids, just like all really yellow flowered forms (with the exception of Zuiun, wich is an actual Neofinetia falcata variety). However they are lovely and many are scented. And most are clasified within the Neofinetia variety group.
Good growing!
This one is actually called "Choukou" or "Chōkō" 超紅 (alternative speling:Choko, Cyokou) and translates into "Super Scarlet". The Korean name is "Chohong".

Hi Ramp, thanks for the info. I had suspected as such but was told by a grower in Japan that it was a species crossed within the red falcatas ... I will ask more expert sources in Japan again and get to the bottom of this.
The other one that is on the question block is var Raikomaru as well.
Any takers on this?
