Neofinetia Mameba Nishiki? - Orchid Board

This was a seedling that I bought a few years ago from NWO, labeled as a Mameba Nishiki, and this is its first bloom. Is this labeled correctly? The flowers do not look like those of my other neo or the ones that I have seen here. Nor do they look like the picture I found online of Mameba Nishiki.
It is very, very fragrant, filling the entire room up with perfume when just a couple of the blooms were open.
I am definitely not an expert with the finer points of leaf-types and flower-types so any help is most welcome.

Mameba means bean leaf and yours is that. Nishiki means brocade so should have a variegation but sometimes it's very faint (especially if yellow). The flowers are ten-zaki (heavenward).

SE's booklet doesn't list Mameba-nishiki so, I don't have a description for conformation. Root color and tsuke type will give us more clues.

This is a Japanese site with a lot of Neo descriptions. I use Chrome for translations.

One other thing. Like any other orchid, seed grown has variations unlike clones.

I concur with AnonYMouse identification of this plant being Tamakongou 玉金剛. It looks like mine--at least. Well grown Leafmite!

Leaf -- if you send Kristen (NWO) an email w/pics...showing all the points that Anon mentioned (tsuke, roots and leaves)...she might be able to help you w/that ID. She's a super sweet lady!

Thank you, everyone. I knew that there were people here that knew quite a bit about neos. I will need to look up Tamakongo.

So, a little more information:
Where the leaves meet, it is straight and slanted. There is no variegation in the leaves. The root tips are not visible right now but I think they are green (but might be mauve when exposed to strong light).
It was still fragrant this morning.

Right now, the new NWO website certificate is not making my computer happy but once my computer's security is able to recognize it, I will probably email a few pictures to help identify this. It did come from there so they will likely recognize it.

Just looked up the Tamakongo. The shape of the fan and the leaf joints are just the same, along with the flowers. I am pretty certain the root tips were that color when not buried in the rock. Wow, thank you. You guys are good!

I think mameba-nishiki is a generic term although that would be hard to confirm with the never ending list of Neos.

Yours, with the upturned bloom is much nicer than a generic mameba. And don't discount the possibility of variegations. Sometimes the stripes and spots come and go with culture.

I chose this neo as I wanted a solid green bean-leaf. I am glad to discover that the flowers are perfectly acceptable for a neo. It will be interesting to see if the sibling is the same. I hope that my Awa Har Beni will be true to form. I bought it for the shape of the leaves and the pink on the flower. The shape of the leaves looks good, the root tips are ruby in good light but it has not bloomed yet. :|
Thank you for the help. I think it is a Tamakongo but I plan to confirm it so I don't introduce it wrong again at an OS meeting. :|

Conformation.

This is where Neos get tricky. The flower form is good for Furan/Fukiran enthusiasts. I don't know if it is acceptable in the AOS standards.

Katrina would be better informed on general AOS conformation. Others here might know Neo specific AOS standards.

I laughed like crazy when I read your last post. My orchids NEVER bloom for shows! EVER! If they are in spike at the right time to bloom for a show, they take a break. Seriously.
Yet, even if my orchids did make an effort, I don't really care about getting a ribbon or naming an orchid. To me, the only reason to grow orchids will always be for personal enjoyment. So, no worries there.

Tell me about it! I had 5 plants that looked like they would be perfect for the MAOC last weekend and then they stalled days prior. By Sunday...open and gorgeous. Spiteful and ungrateful little b***ards!
