on some of my vandas when the leaves drop off......some of the dead is left on the side of the stock and the plant or new growth will sometimes looks as if it rotted. What should I do? to keep the bottom leaves healthy? or to keep this from building up?

I'm not entirely sure I know what you mean. Could you post a photo? Carefully trimming up a plant is a good practice but be careful not to damage healthy tissue. It sounds to me that perhaps your plant is being kept too wet but without knowing more of your cultural conditions I can't be certain.

Will try to send picture soon and thank-you. This is not a problem on most of my vandas but just a couple. I thought vandas needed plenty of water and misting and it would be hard to cut back the little bit of brown that is left when the leaf drops. inside I can be careful how I water but outside is different.

I think this is what you are asking? Here is a picture of my Neofinetia hybrid. This is known as the tsuke. It is the base of the leaf where the leaf attached to the plant. As you can see I have these brown sheaves. Eventually the plant will cast it off as it continues to grow. On some of my plants, roots grow under this material and push it away from the plant.

Ryan advices caution trying to cut this material off the plant. If you somehow scratch or damage the healthy plant, you might induce infection.

Default Vandas tsuke

sorry been out of town but that is exactly what I am talking about. At some point I may have caused damage or too much water from being outside
remained in the tsuke. I will continue to be careful and the picture was worth a thousand words....thanks again

Degarmoara Winter Wonderland is also called Aliceara Winter Wonderland. Its parents are Bratonia (Miltassia) Cartagena x Oncidium (Odontoglossum) Gledhow.
