Acquiring Neofinetias Via EBay
Hi Ginger. I am watching NWO's auctions and I have noticed that there is not a lot of bidding on the plants they offer--unlike Seed Engei. This is why I was surprised that I've won several plants on eBay the NWO has listed. You have a better than average chance to winning a bid if you can figure out how much you are willing to pay for a plant. Either one of those two plants listed is worthwhile. I would probably go for flowering plant. There will be more attention to the plant with the seed pod and more competition. This is a variety of Neof. that develop three colors--probably requires a lot of bright in direct light.
I'm bidding on the pots. Unlike you I haven't figured out how to make my own pots. BTW, I'm displaying some Neos in my orchid society show and I've been asked by the display chair to include my Higashidemiyako in its Cubby pot.

I am so relieved to hear that Matt yes I would bid on the
Beniougi without the seed pod. I will wait until large before I bid on it. Thank you for the encouragement and I am so happy that you are enjoying you Cubs pot that was my intention. . Good luck with your bids on the pots.

NWO lists their plants much higher than Seed Engei, which is why they get more bids.
I have a Beniogi from Glenn, and I'm glad I got the one I have. It looks a lot better than the two posted and is growing another growth. I'll have to post a picture of it soon.

Wow! someone is selling a Neofinetia Falcata Hakubotan (白牡丹) for $500! Anyone know why this plant is that expensive? Besides the fact that the vendor states it is rare, can some of you Neofinetia high flyers care to comment on this one?

FWIW, teh google brings up an old Seed Engei online catalog listing for a 2 growth Hakubotan at $1500.
HAKUBOTAN ??? - Neofinetia falcata/Japanese orchid/Samurai orchid/SEED ENGEI
Quote:
$1500
[overall]
Always noble and honored variety in all. One of most popular and high class variety.
Because variegation is very colorful, people might think this is a tiger stripe variety but is stripe variety. Best variegated Hakubotan has all white color base with green spread stripe. When leaves has 80% of white base, it would be considered as good variegation. Variegation only appear on new leaves and disappear as it gets old. This unique and beautiful variegation are not all about it. Beautiful ruby roots add a value to it.
Lately, seedling plants got big and started having nice variegation. Hard to get.
[leaves]
thick and wide, get variegation only on new leaves.
[stem /roots /tsuke]
dark mud brown stem, ruby root tips, crescent moon tsuke
[size/ comment]
two growths, healthy big plants, only one available!
