Ginger, I took lots of pictures. I'm trying to organize them now. I'm doing a write up on my visit for my orchid society's newsletter. I'm trying to get more members interested--especially those folks who have limited space.[/QUOTE]

Fantastic you must start a new thread....I can't wait

The folded leaves don't look abnormal to me, but the black spot on the left and the markings on that leaf below look suspect to me (guignardia?). I would avoid this plant which otherwise has very nice white tiger markings...

Was that you? No apologies necessary. I had actually won one out of two plants--ASAHIDEN 朝日殿. I lost my bid for the Manjushage to Jayfar (which again, I don't mind at all), then for kicks, I bid on the TENKEI-FUKURIN 天恵覆輪 and surprisingly I won that one. Then I saw no bid on the SETSUZAN 雪山 and bid on that one and won it! So all in all a very nice trio of plants and at bargain prices.

Diamond Orchid had a Renanetia Sunrise, Neofinetia falcata x Renanthera, Orchid for bid. Earlier this summer I bid on several of these plants from Diamond Orchid and they went too high. Tonight I was the only bidder and won it. If you see this plant up for auction, the picture of the flowers is on the cover of the August 2012 issue of the AOS Orchids magazine. The magazine had n article authored by Peter Lin, not the Phalaenopsis guy.

Hmmm, good point about the black spot, although I'm not sure if it's guignardia; I'd expect to see it on more than one leaf and the other marks look more like mechanical damage. Could always remove that leaf proactively. I'll likely pass on this one anyway for budgetary reasons, although I do like the variegation.

On the other hand, the description for Amanogawa on Orchids Ltd.'s site says:

Quote:
'Amanogawa', translated as 'Milky Way', is a white tiger spot variety.

This variety commonly gets brown markings on the older white tiger stripe areas.
That reminds me I should submit my amazon order for the Cleary's 3336 and Mancozeb for my few spotty-leafed Vandas.

Good choices Matt! Tenkei is nice variegation, very clear and large plants, and Setsuzan is a great variety, I can't see the plant that was for auction now with my app but usually Satomi has nice multigrowths ones. The tiger variegation becomes great on this form with alternative of bright light and shade every two weeks during growing season! I tried this technique this summer and my plant looks fantastic now!

Just thought I'd throw this in. Diamond Orchids is Peter T. Lin who is also a Neoficionado. Peter Lin is the Big Leaf Orchid Phal guy.

And Peter T. Lin is also responsible for the FSoA website. The other Peter Lin is or was webmaster for the International Phalaenopsis Alliance. And no, the two have never met, according to Peter of Big Leaf.

I wonder what would happen if they occupied the same space and time.

The orchid universe would fold in on itself.
