The reason I liked this Beniougi was the fact that it had the nice marginal stripe of red/pink AND yellow-green marginal stripe on the upper leaves.
The best Beniougi is supposed to be a Yellow-green fukurin where it turns to scarlet fukurin on the older leaves, but I've not seen very many sold in the US with the characteristic marginal pink and yellow green in a clean variegation. They mostly just have red scattered randomly across the leaf or completely lack the yellow green variegation
A good beniougi should look like this:
However, I know that there are ones for sale elsewhere. I was just hoping a good deal.

Ooooooh, that's an exceptionally nice one! I have a single growth that I bought last year as a division from an occasional ebay seller (yonex1028). Mine has the marginal scarlet variegation pretty consistent on all leaves, but no yellow. I wonder if a certain level of lighting would bring out some yellow?

It should come out as yellow first and as it gets exposed to more and more light, it turns red. The stages go as green -> yellow/white -> red/pinks.

BTW, I give it southwestern exposure all year long with 50% shade. I treat it like a yellow tiger...

My Beniougi looks like it came from your plant Leslie! I can't wait for the time when my plant produces more fans and more variegation. I wish I can get a second Beniougi so that I can experiment with light intensity to bring out the three color variegation.

Crazy! I must be crazy! Thank God, there were far more crazy people bidding against me last night! There was some really nice plants that went higher than I thought would be of good value. I hope whomever they were, they enjoy their new plants.
A nice set of plants up for auction tonight. I might bid on the Fugaku. That is an interesting looking plant--one large fan all green and the rest beautifully variegated. Musoumaru-no-tora looks interesting. Vendor states that there is a damaged leaf, which is visible, so "special price". But it is the highest valued plant up for bid?

Lovely plant obviously well cared for Ginger. You and Leslie sure know how to grow this Beniougi.
