Yes, I did a fedex from SE for one plant a while back, for a Saturday delivery yet (extra pricey). Ironically, it was the rare occasion where fedex screwed up. Fedex produced a label that was missing one digit from the street address, even though SE had the correct address on the waybill, and consequently my Saturday delivery didn't come until Monday.

Maybe we can get SE to move to Chicago? That way, I can drive there. It is a $100 round trip by car to Hausermanns (petrol for the car). Just yesterday, a new puddle jumper, never heard before airline is offering fan-jet service from Fort Wayne to Chicago Midway for (I think) $150.00 round trip. But they only fly on weekdays.
NWO is a 90 minute drive but I do not want to bother Dr. Glenn and Kristen--they are such busy people and they really put out the hospitality matt when you visit. It really is a lovely experience having tea and crumpets with Glenn amidst his beautiful Neofinetia. Or Pizza and Ice Tea with Kristen's family on a beautiful deck overlooking wild fields of praire and woods. <sigh>

I'm photographing a wedding at Norte Dame in June. I think I may but them and ask to see their set up. If a plant comes home with me, it wouldn't be the end of the world surely.

It's frustrating, isn't it? Sometimes I stop and remind myself that fedex, ups and so on move millions of tons of freight every year, maybe even every day... crazy.
I did a "by the numbers" for a team I managed that was having a hard time connecting their work with the end result for the customer and using KLAX and KJFK, I was able to show by day, week, month and year how many people and freight their work got from A to B safely-- even I was blown away by the numbers. The exercise worked like a charm.

Ryan, if you are in South Bend, Indiana in June, you really should plan to visit NWO. It is basically a three hour drive form Notre Dame University. Since you are that far east, you might consider flying back to Boulder via Detroit, MI
(Sorry for the poor photo.)

Like Quay said, these plants are hardy. But it sure makes the wait excruciating!

YAY!!!! They arrived just about 20 minutes ago. They appear green and healthy, though a bit chilly; no frost on 'em anyway. I lucked out considering that they spent at least 8 hours Wednesday riding around in the truck with temps in low 20s. I resisted the urge to confront the delivery man, just greeted him with a cheery thank you; since he's the regular guy on this route, no sense antagonizing him.

The fact that he's still making deliveries at this late hour would seem to indicate that USPS has a heavy load even in the weeks following xmas.
I wonder if it would help if SE were to label their packages as "perishable" or "live plants." I was thinking maybe they forego the live plants labeling in order to fly under the radar of the California regulatory bureaucracy.

My boxes from SE do say they contain plants and are perishable. Also festooned with please handle with care labels. Glad you got your two beautiful plants. I'm still waiting for my plant. I'm hoping these will be delivered tomorrow. If I were superstitious I believe I would've gotten my box sooner IF I had ordered more than one plant!

Oh, you're right. Today's box did NOT have any such labels, but I still have the boxes from the previous few shipments and indeed those do have the labels.
I'm surprised yours is taking so long. Mine reached my closest local post office and even got loaded on the delivery truck Wednesday morning. It's just that last mile that took an additional 2-1/2 days.

It left Indianapolis at around 2:43am 01/10/14. The sort center is on the SW side of Indy, near the airport. I have flown out of Indy and it takes me 1.45 hours to drive to the airport by car. By my reckoning, even if USPS put it on a bicycle, it would have gotten to Fort Wayne by 6pm last night--and that is allowing for a lot of rest breaks and taking the scenic route. LOL. I'm still hoping it will get here today.
BTW Seed Engei has 45 plants up for auction--today, tomorrow, and Monday. While NWO has eight plants up for auction, most are Sophronistis, one Nagoran, one Cymbidium goeringii. The Sophronistis have lovely red flowers. Not to be left out, Orchids Limited has six items for sale, only two Neofinetia.

This one? If so, impressively healthy looking plant with lots of fans, and lovely variegation. GO RYAN! GO RYAN! GO RYAN!
