Yay, my thread is being helpful

peltiers look great for cooling terrariums - not so good for pc; they have a tendency to cause condensation in the cpu, water + electricity in a 3 grand system does not look like fun.

They are really easy to set up, use a computer power supply and attach the 12v (red and black) wires in the small plugs to the unit. Connect your fans using the usual connections (the only ones they fit) and your done. The power supply only outputs 12v max so you shouldn't get a shock (not that I would go sticking the wires in my mouth mind).

To get it running all you have to do is connect the green wire to the black wire on the 20 pin connector. This fools the power supply into thinking it is in a pc.

Easier to do then it sounds, I would post pics but I don't seem able to on here. Any clues?

As an interesting byproduct the peltier can also be used for heating, in fact it actually puts out more heat then it draws from the air. They can be rather power hungry though, remember they are performing thermodynamic voodoo and that doesn't come cheap

Picture is worth a thousand words!!!!!

You need to upload to photobucket or something along those lines. Then there's two ways you can post them....copy the img link and paste it on your post. Or copy the link and use the img(pic of the mountain) button at the top and paste your link there.

I have acutally used a small mini-frig, with great success, to cool my cool-growing orchids in the winter.

I am a moderator on several other forums, I know how to upload a photo but OB denies my post when I try to input a URL. Maybe due to a rank restriction?
