Terrarium options?
Hey everyone.
I have a plan to set up a terrarium, but I'm at a bit of a loss for what orchids would do well inside.
I plan on putting in Nepenthes Densiflora as the main focal point but I need other things happening in it.
So if you have any suggestions for orchids and non-orchids that'd do well at 12-15°C (55-60°F) of a night, 21-29°C (70-85°F) of a day, and around 70-90% humidity, preferably native to Sumatra it'd be very much appreciated.
Sorry for being so pedantic haha.
Thanks in advance.
Rich.

I'd check out this thread -
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...errariums.html
I'm setting up a terrarium myself, lots of great suggestions and info there. Also, Andy's Orchids does a great job of breaking down their plants by zone and temp/humidity preferences. You can also check boards for people who care for dart frogs, they often discuss plants and orchids which will do well in that kind of of temp and humidity.

Thanks, I'll have a nose around and see what I can find.
That Andy's Orchids is good, can't believe I missed it haha.

No worries, I think I was on OB for a few months before someone suggested Andy's. I'm pretty new to this myself, but am rapidly moving into the miniatures territory, you can fit way more orchids in your apartment that way. ; )

I'm not familiar with any high altitude orchids from Sumatra, but thats because I am ignorant in the subject. But I would guess that there might be some cool growing Phalaenopsis orchids found along side Nepenthes? What do you think? Also, I have heard of Sunipia (related to Bulbophyllum) that grows in high altitudes. But I have not found them for sale.
Ok so how are you keeping the temperature so low, Im dieing to find out!
If you don't mind breaking away from the biotype, then I would suggest you put in some pleurothallids.

Well so far the only orchids I have found are species of Bulbophyllum, so I think I'll have a better look at those, or just go for what looks nicest really.
Thankfully my room is quite a cold room, a combination of 2 external walls and miserable English weather, but if the temp still doesn't fall enough I'd considering using a cool air humidifier, but I think it's just going to be trial and error really, fingers crossed haha.

Well, I don't think there are many orchids that absolutely require warmer temps than what you are planning to give in order to grow. So I would try anything. What plants really love is temperateness (lack constant changes in conditions).
