As for the SH run off i just let it sit in the tank, like you said help keep up the humidity. It does get a little yukky after a while and then i take my shopvac to it.
On another note. I have around 30 Phals in this tank that have been transplanted into S/h at some point.
Anecdotally, I've noticed that the phal are not rooting very well in the S/h there are tons of roots however they are not going into the S/h and are just . I do have several other phals of similar size that were put in S/h around the same but are not in the tank and they have tons of root diving into the S/h.
Again anecdotally I think I might be the high humidity in the orchidarium. I will start some tests to prove or disporve my theory

Try a sleeve of black white poly/layflat around the outside of the pot. Slide it down to see the roots, then up to avoid the algae. By using the white side facing out you will reflect more light in your tank.

It's stunning. I love the fat pseudobulbs and the frog looks healthy. Were those fruit flies? Pardon my ignorance, I have no experience with vivaria. It's really amazing.
