So far all three flowers that have opened are dreadful. For whatever reason they are deformed.

when I saw your description i cant help but put a smile on my face because this is what i said as well when my phal Schill opened the first bloom and i said why is it like this its not right they are deformed and was really disappointed upon seeing it but in a couple of days or 3 days after its all opened i mean opened completely where petals are spread out lo and behold they are magnificent .I thought they were deformed at first because they were not opened completelybut i was wrong i hope this is the same as yours...be patient ..

Well, every single flower that has opened are deformed and they have open for some length of time. I still believe that this is the first blooming for this particular plant even if it is somewhat large. I'm confident that in the next couple of years the plant will get into the swing of producing decent flowers. Still, the colour is welcome.

As the flowers opened they seemed to be less malformed but having seen some other pics of the flowers that were totally stunning, mine seemed to be far less attractive. I'm sure it will get there. What is the difference between a 'jungle' plant and another one? Line breeding?

Sorry I was trying to upload some pics but I forgot how to do it,but the jungle form is their flowers are not as flat as the others.hope I can post a link here let me try ....and they are fragrant are yours fragrant?

Orchid Web: Phalaenopsis schilleriana (2N)

I would still think that they are not deformed and would probably appreciate it more if your
Schills has more blooms and unlike hybrids theirs are not flat just try to look athe the photos and compare.

I don't have the best sense of smell but mine are definitely scented and not flat at all so it seems you are perfectly correct, my one is a forest Schillie. I am very glad you pointed that out! Thank you.

Your welcome but i have to tell you this i came from the country where Schill was originally from but didnt know that even though they are schilleriana their blooms would actually be different from others maybe from line breeding or interbreeding from the wild who knows .I actually noticed it when i bought 3 of them here in Florida where i am located now, and when they bloom they are not exactly the same .If you would want to see the photos as i forgot how to upload photos here if you go to forum..then go to phalaeonpsis alliance ..click on specie and you would go to thread no. 1 for this thread ...then go to thread no 2 and look for my "first phalaeonopsis Schilleriana here in the Usa" and you would see what i am talking about .The Shills that is stake way up is the one i thought was deformed when it opened initially but came out nicely after 3 days or when all of it opened completely.See the difference between the two one is smaller and not so flat while the other is bigger and flatter and they are both Schills .Just giving you this so you wont be disappointed on your Schills the longer you keep it the larger and more blooms it will give you.To add to this on my search for an answer i found differrent Schills as well
The Jungle form
The Pink butterfly Phalaeonopsis shilleriana AM aos i think
the Phalaeonopsis Schillerianna var. purpurae
the Phalaenopsis Schilleriana var purpurae Ma no. 2 then no. 3
and in Japan theres Phal Shilleriana sashima and so on and so forth take a look at this Schills in Japan. You would probably wonder how they do it over there lol
