3 Phalaenopsis schilleriana
It’s a pink profusion in the greenhouse right now with my three schillies blooming at once. My oldest one finally gave me a branched spike this year so I’m pretty pleased about that. The third one I think is a schilleriana (Carol, I believe this is the one from you. Is that right?). I probably wrote it down wrong and labeled it as a Phal stuartiana, which obviously it isn’t, but I’m not complaining. I really adore this species with those undeniably gorgeous leaves so what’s one more, right? lol

Three of them blooming at once! Lucky you. They're beautiful.

These can be quit fragrant. Have you noticed that with any of yours?

I can't keep more than three leaves at a time on mine. As soon as the fourth leaf matures, the oldest one turns yellow and falls off. I'm not sure what's going on with that. I grow it in a bark mix, like all my other Phals, and it has healthy roots both inside and outside the pot. I grow it at a sunny window in the winter, and outside in bright shade in the summer. No idea why it only want's to never have more than three leaves.

Those plants are stunning! How old is the one which made a branching spike? This is one of my favorite Phal species, it's beautiful to look at both in and out of bloom.

I have both the species and a primary hybrid (schilleriana x stuartiana) and both of them behave the way you describe, and your growing conditions sound like mine. I've had the hybrid for 10 years, it's always been a happy looking plant with lots of roots and it makes a nice spike each year, so I've come to the conclusion that this species just doesn't like to hang on to too many leaves at once. (at least when grown potted, and indoors)

I've slept since then SaraJean. But I know it went to a great home! Great job.
Mine are blooming too and three wouldn't be too many. Happiness in a stem!

Yep, sounds just like mine. It appears healthy by all measures, it grows rapidly, and blooms every winter, but it just doesn't want to have more than three leaves at a time. Maybe that's just how they are.

I’ll add a better pic of the leaves. They really are such a gorgeous color and I like the variation or the mottling between the individuals. Also, metallic roots and red root tips! It really is a great looking orchid in or out of bloom

Only a very light rose like fragrance on one of them. It seems like most of the schillerianas have lost their fragrance with the breeding to achieve bigger blooms with better shape and color. I’ll take a “poorly” shaped flower that smells like heaven any day of the week

That seems to be pretty common. My oldest one is just now holding on to 4 leaves. Two years ago it was three leaves at a time, and before that, only two when it was a wee seedling. I’m seeing the same pattern with my two younger schillies with being able to hold on to their leave a little longer as they age. The most I’ve seen was six leaves on one plant but it was super old and the person had had it for well over a decade.

Thank you! I’ve had that one for about 6 years. It looked like it was just out of a compot when I received it with leaves the size of a large coin. This is it’s 3rd time blooming and I gave it some brighter light this year which I’m sure helped

Thank you! And now that I’m looking at these I can’t help but think a few more would be nice so I could have a big pink wall of cascading flowers every March

Beautiful flowers. I may have to get one. Where did you get yours?

Okay I succumbed. I just ordered one, and an Amsiella from J&L Orchids. I've had very good luck with them.
