Repotting Oncidium Ron's Rippling Delight Female
Default Repotting Oncidium Ron's Rippling Delight

I converted a new acquired Oncidium Ron's Rippling Delight to SH in May this year. As I’m a beginner with Orchids and SH I started to worry when a leave turned yellow, because before that the plant seemed to do so good.

Further more, I could tell very easily on the other Oncidiums I had converted to SH that new roots were forming very well but not this one. There were just too many older roots in the pot for me to be able to asse what was going on in there.

So I decided to repot to see how things were doing and to make asjustment if required. Anyway I believe it was potted too deep, as you can see from the picture below the old pseudobulb is sitting deep in the leca.

When I looked at the roots they seemed ok to my inexperienced eye and there were new growths. I did not cleaned too much of the old roots only what I could get ride
of by rinsing really well under running water.

Here is a picture of the roots after I cleaned it. Some of the beige ones seem to me healthy as most were not mushy, they actually felt bouncy to the touch. You can see on the picture the little threads as the external part of the roots is dead. Can I cut these next time ? I did not this time.

Here is a picture on how I have reported it. I find it very difficult to repot when the new pseudobulb climbs up.

Any advise ?

I will keep this in a warm environment ( day and night around 71-72 degrees) for the next 2 weeks before having to its usual environnement where night are a bit cooler.
