Another problem comes that if you have the glass tank in the window (for the plant's light) then the fish is going to boil to death. Goldfish are "carp" essentially. They are what they call "cold water fish," not tropical fish. An average "comet" or "common" (the kind you can get at a fish store for a few cents) can grow to 8" to 12" and live for 10 years in captivity, and about 25 years in the wild.
