How about Miltonia in S/H? Female
Question How about Miltonia in S/H?

I just won a budded Miltonia from Ebay, and it just arrived, some buds already bloomed. I've never had one before, (didn't expect to win the bid!) and I'd like to know if I can move this into S/H. All my other orchids are in S/H under my LED track lighting, and seem to be doing fine. I'm talking Phals, an Ondontoglossium? and a few Oncidiums. Should I leave this one in it's pot? It came in some moss/bark mixture with moss on top that's green. Any answers for me?

I don't know if you can or not, but congrats on your win. Pictures? I need to know this answer as well since I will be buying one.

Won't be able to send a photo until the weekend. I do have another question regarding these orchids. I use the larger size hydroton pellets for my phals, as they have larger thick roots, and the smaller size (From First Rays) for my oncidiums, which have smaller roots. What size roots do these orchids have??

I have three Milts on S/H...they grow well in this method and I dont have to worry about it being dried up in my centrally airconditioned/heating environment.

Bud, its good to see that these work in s/h. How long have yours been potted this way, I see blooms so it must agree with them.

I plunked mine in S/H in october (with hardly any roots), and it really took off and is doing wonderfully, with roots already down into the reservoir. It has some growths maturing, so I hope to see blooms in a few months. I don't have much choice when it comes to Leca, so just used what I found.

I had this plant for a year and a half now...I transplanted it in bloom as you can see...I had to remove the sphag ball under the roots...I am waiting for it to bloom again this summer

Concerning the medium particle size, the "standard" in the horticulture industry is 8-16 mm diameter, and after 20 years of experimenting, I conclude that it is fine for pretty much anything.

Bud, I notice you have your glass vase sitting in a bowl. I have my glass vases drilled just under half way from the bottom, but I haven't thought of sitting it in a bowl. I do have shallow saucers under them in case some water leaks out of the hole. Should I be doing it your way?
