S/H for miniatures?
Default S/H for miniatures?

I would like to try growing some miniatures under lights in semi hydroponics? Does anyone have success with this? I am trying to bypass the need for a terrarium.

I'm interested in growing mini:
Masdies
Pleuros
Porroglossoms

Anybody have any thoughts? Your input is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kaity

I have 2 masdevallias; infracta and Maui Lollipop in S/H. They are both doing wonderfully with blooms. I also have a lost tag specie Pleuro in S/H that is growing roots like crazy. This plant was given to me as a keiki in January so I am pleased with the root growth.

Thanks Joann for the response! I'm curious if you have the pleuro in hydroton alone or some other media mixture?

Don't fool yourself into thinking that a constantly-moist medium will substitute for a humid environment.

Any evaporation that will occur will dissipate throughout the room so rapidly, that the so-called "localized humidity" is lost.

Kaity, my Pleuro is in S/H culture.
My humidity is less than optimal as it runs 40-55% in the winter and 60-80% in the summer.
