Al, please please don't stop posting pics of your phals!!! A couple of ignorant, hateful people shouldn't stop you from showing off your beauties! I for one, love all your photos and orchids and look forward to seeing your posts. I am hoping that it wasn't anyone on here that sent you an email. If so I would think that it should be something that should be reported. No one should be sent an email like that! I have many grocery store phals and I enjoy them every bit as much as my other orchids. Please ignore people like that, they obviously are very sad individuals.

Well Camille, people will be people, but I don't need the hastle. LOL
I post my pictures on WebShots, basically as a safe place to store pictures of my plants......sort of an orchid inventory.
If you want to see, here is the link.

Orchids pictures from home & garden photos on webshots

The pictures in "My Gallery" here on the OB are basically for postings I have made that require a picture to help explain or show what the post is about. I've removed most of the phal pictures.

Thanks for the concern and the compliment.
Al

Al--

I'm a newbie here but have been following this thread-- and I have to tell you your phals are really amazing. And the shots you have of them on webshots are breath-taking. Thanks for sharing (and forget those fools who sent that awful email to you). I like all orchids but my favorites are the moth orchids-- and yours are amazing.

Angry I'm just getting to this thread...

...and I am not a very happy camper right now!

First...

Al, please don't be discouraged. Every single unmounted chid I have is in a standard orchid pot with holes and/or slits in the bottom and sides...and most of them sit in a saucer of water because I'm too lazy to fill them all with gravel.

400 chids...all doing fine! Yours will be fine too...we already see how beautiful they are.

NOW!...

I would just LOVE to know who had the audacity to send an email like that to ANY member of this community!!!

I know Al will never give me the name of who sent such dribble BUT if I ever do find out, rest assured, I will ban that member! Them sending a crap email like that instead of posting it in the forums shows me that they know it was something that shouldn't have been done...kind of cowardly in my book!

We DO NOT treat people poorly here...never have and never will! It's not a question of whether we post our thoughts in the forums or sneak them in to an email...it just ISN'T done!

Shame on you!

First of all, don't worry Al. Your plants will be fine. Just sit them in a saucer filled with water and it will have the same effect as using a pot designed specifically for S/H. The only difficulty you might have is flushing the pot. You'll have to use more water since you can't easily plug the holes and let the pot fill up to the top. You may have to water a bit more often as well to keep the uppermost layers of PA damp. Buy me a plane ticket to Maine and I'll be delighted to help you repot!

As for the idiot(s) who sent you that crappy email....well, forget it. Obviously they are either very insecure, or true orchid snobs, or just mean spirited. They aren't worth worrying about. Obviously enough people thought your Phal. Taida Salu was beautiful enough to win a place on the OB calendar. That many people can't be wrong. Whoever these dorks are their heads are up in a really dark place!

Al, grocery, store-bought Phals need love too! How snobby and quite ridiculous and almost, funny if you think about it.

OrchidNewB, glad to see how nicely yours are adapting to the s/h. I just transferred a Phal. to s/h...after, over a year of the plant doing nothing. I received it in spike with rot...cut the spike down immediately and since then, it's hardly grown but, it hasn't died, surprisingly. It's just begun growing 2 roots (still nubs) so I took the plunge into s/h. Hope I have the same success as you.

Keep posting updates, it's very encouraging!

Your going to love s/h not as much work more time to sit and watch orchids grow.
