Dear all,
finally my first cambria in s/h is flowering, but the spike has some problems:
some buds seem growing well, like the first pic, some others have a strange shape (see the second pic) and others died (third one). Could someone help me in understanding what is happening?
te temperature ranges from 20 and 18 °C and the day is coming to be probably too short... may be this is the cause?
thanks!!
Pierangelo
Do you have any pests on your plants? And what is the humidity/ temp around the plants because bud blast could be do to sudden temp change or humidity change at least that is what happens to my phals and dens when the buds blast.
I don't see anything obviously wrong with the first or second pictures, but the third shows a bud that has blasted. This can happen as a result of too low humidity, cold drafts, even moving an orchid while it is in bud. Day length would not ordinarily cause bud blast, though it does initiate flower spikes in some orchids.
Well, in the second picture you can see that the buds are too large, short, and the extremity is already lightly opened, even if they are still premature....they seem deformed.
I've already had the same problem with another cambria in summer (it was potted in bark), so I blamed the temperature, but now we are near the winter....
The humdity is about 60%.
somebody had the same experience?
Thanks a lot, Pierangelo
