So I went to the dollar store a while back and found a bunch of different sized pot dishes and bought about $8 worth
I had them around a few of my bigger plants and I was keeping a small res in the dish
I realized that since I use lava rock, perlite and charcoal, I have mostly wicking, inorganic material, this was a less efficient version of rays tech but with a lot more air and no need to flush.
I have no idea the applicability of this across species but it was sort of a “food for thought” idea.
I have it in plastic net pots and big orchid terra-cotta pots
