Chas, those are the shelves from those wire shelving units you can buy at Lowe's. They fit perfectly across the tub! The window above the tub faces south and is on the SW corner of the house.

I'm currently misting from the top but don't spray enough for any water to gather in the crown. The only thing I try to avoid is misting the flowers.

What's the proper way to mist plants? Should you mist above and let it fall onto the entire plant or should you focus the mist around the bottom so you wet the aerial roots?

Camille, you were right! The first two blooms are over a week old now and have a very strong sweet smell...never smelled anything like it before!

two weekends go I thought I'd stop in the local nursery that carries all kinds of orchids and just look around. I should have left my wallet at home. I think the orchid lady called it an oncidium...

I'm in the Austin Tx area. I keep them in the bathroom which is tiled so it gets cool at night maybe down into the mid 60's and into the 70's during the day.

I bought a phal last May that had a spike that is about 4" long. It never grew any longer than that. The plant itself has been doing well...putting on several new leafs. I moved to a new house...

This has to be better than the previous place. They were inthe same trays in the bedroom in a west facing window. I ran the ceiling fan pretty much 7x24 and they seem to have done fairly well there.

I've got a mixture of phals and dens. They're all in bark mixture, some have moss around the top. I've got them all sitting in rock filled water trays that I keep water in to help the humidity.
