I see. That's good to know — thank you. It's a little frustrating trying to gauge information as a beginner.

To be honest, I don't watch MOG much anymore. Not enough Neos and jewel orchids for my...

Is it normal for Bletilla striata to die back in the Winter?

Last year, I had purchased a Bletilla striata "Soryu" at a local nursery. At some point, I saw on the internet articles were saying stuff like "Bletilla striata comes from mountainous regions in...

Is she not a good source of information? I'm pretty new to the orchid community, so I'm still trying to work on finding fairly reliable information about plant care.

Anyways, regarding Dendrobium...

True, though I imagine for ecological reasons such research projects on other plants probably already exist and are being conducted right now. Changing climates probably mess with the normal dormancy...

Question Does Dendrobium moniliforme need a dormancy to stay healthy?

I've heard that in Japan, because Dendrobium moniliforme is usually grown for its foliage, it's pretty common for growers to keep their orchids at constant temperatures throughout the year, so that...

You know, you make some really good points.

I was thinking about it some more this morning, and I suppose it wouldn't be outside of the realm of possibility that the dormancy might also help...

I mean, a polar bear can't live in the tropics because it would overheat, since its body is adapted to conserve heat. The polar bears body would not change to handle a different environment.

Where...

Why would dormancy be necessary outside of suboptimal conditions?

I'm planning on getting a Sedirea japonica Minmaru and Minmaru-shima. In preparation for it, I've been doing a bit of a deep-dive into Sedirea japonica care/culture and... I'm not gonna lie, some of...

I'd very much like to get into hybridizing orchids. Unfortunately, that would require certain equipment to establish sterile conditions, that probably costs a fair bit of money :(

Dark spots on Tolumnia leaves. Natural pigmentation or infection?

I was in the middle of watering some of my plants when I noticed a bunch of these dark spots on my tolumnia's leaves (if it at all helps, it's a Jairak Flyer "Red Cherry"). They look sort of...

I have a D. aberrans and D. jenkinsii, and I'm going to be getting a variegated miniature D. moniliforme. I haven't been able to find a lot of information on which of these goes dormant/wants a...
