That is exactly how I built mine! I also found that the silicone doesn't stick to that type of plastic very well. Instead of bolting I just ended up sending the surface a bit and using building adhesive. One big problem I had was finding a suitable box. Australian regulations mean that any box big enough to fit a child inside cannot have a lid that seals anywhere near air tight. Took a bit of hunting but I found one I could seal enough with weather strip.

I found them at homedepot and rona
Are you saying there is more than a half inch of standing bleach water in the bin, when you are working in it? Because those lids have some depth.

I am not saying you can't use the lid as the bottom, I think it depends on where you are going to use it. My concern while doing it was my carpet. Yes, I did put towels everywhere around my work zone. I also used alot of the bleach and peroxide spray while sowing the seeds. So yes, there was alot of bleach and peroxide at the bottom of the bin in the end, maybe not a half an inch. Since I was doing the seed sowing indoors over carpet, I wouldn't have used the lid as the bottom, I would have looked at a different way to build it.

AH I see. Yeah, I would be doing it on the kitchen counter or dining table most likely, so totally bleachable surfaces and laminate flooring.

I just wanted to show you how much bleach, peroxide was left in the bottom of the box after sowing 6 sets of seeds.

Unfortunately the picture doesn't show actually how much was there, but the box was tilted on the side and had about 2 cups of bleach, peroxide on the bottom. If you have a lid that can hold that much liquid, I guess you could use the lid as the bottom. The lid to my glove box is flat inside with a lip going around it.

The lid on my glove box would NOT have held all of that liquid. So if you must make one with the lid for the bottom, make sure it can hold at least 1.5 - 2 cups of liquid safely.
