I was woundering if anyone has used this product?
Hill's Seed Sowing Medium
A prepared medium designed for the germination of orchid seeds. It is in a dehydrated form (powder) and packaged as follows:
1 liter package (34 grams).......$ 7.50 each
10 liter package (340 grams).....$45.00 each
5-9 10 liter packages............$40.00 each
10+ 10 liter packages............$35.00 each
34 grams of nutrient are dissolved in one liter of boiling water and dispensed into six 500ml Erlenmeyer flasks. Sterilization is done at 121 degrees celcius, 15 pounds of steam pressure for fifteen minutes.
I've never used Hill's Medium but it's been recommended to me from a grower I trust. What genus are you working with? Some are picky and might not work with it, but others will come up on anything.
Unless you have a good scale, I'd just buy the liter packages. If agar is not included already (sometimes it is, sometimes not), you'll have to add your own. It should state clearly if agar is included.
OK thanks royal i was just recomended it from a friend,He said if you want a good mix and not have to worry about measuring it out this stuff is great.
A good place for media is OSP. They have a lot of differnet types available. I emailed them to ask what media they recommended for the seeds I had, and he was very helpful!
