Flasking Frustrations, Finally Feeling Fed up

I have a question here I am doing some flasking too and I might have had the same problem as you!! But it was when I was trying African Violets and Venus Flytraps I seen the media start changing color a little and turning liquidy !! But I have been playing around with seeds and I have a little question, see I have some that is going on like almost 60days and it is still not sowing and the others sowed nicely and now I don't know what happened at 1st they were ok they were green green then turned a lime green to yellow now when I replated them they turned white but it is not mold but I need help was it just a slow replate?? And the thing is I thought when replating you should wait till they start putting out the little leaves out the protocorm help need anyone!! And this is a good thing for you to know to because I have never seen a picture right before someone replates!!

If your media goes slimy or liquid I think that would indicate bacterial contamination. I can't really tell but the first two photos may show uncontrolled cell division. There was a post a while back about frankinstine? flask. Sorry about the spelling. Someone said that it was caused by the media. In any case, the flask is probably not worth keeping. I always thought that replating was done when the first roots started to appear or sooner if the flask was way over crowded. I will be interested in what others think.

It sounds to me like you waited too long to replate. There were too many plants in there for the amount of gas exchange going on (assuming that you had breathing holes in the lid). If you did not have gas exchange holes, than this is probably your problem. If you do have holes, there are probably too many plants in there for the size of the hole. The more the plants multiply, the less air there is for them to share. Think of it like people stuck in a cave, with only a tiny hole for fresh oxygen to enter and CO2 to escape (Totally the opposite for plants). The more people you add to the cave, the quicker people will start dieing of suffocation. As soon as they are about the size of a BB ( about 1/8"), is the best replate time....this is what I was told by a commercial grower. I'm sure there are different opinions on this. I think you would have been okay, had you replated earlier, and seperated them into multiple flasks. Putting less plants per flask would allow them to breathe better. Just my

Thanks alot yeah I didn't hae any air hole on it but I will from now on!! hahha Yeah and there was quite a bite in there!! well one was a whole green seed pod and the thers were seed I have bought of someone!! but Thanks alot I will let you know how everything is goin!! So should I have put them back into mother plating media or was the replate media the right way to go??!

Yes, the replate was correct, just a little bit late. When you replate, one flask can usually replate into 3-10 replate flasks, depending on how many plants there are. The whole purpose of the replate is to give them more nutrients, and more room to grow. You gave them the nutrients, but not the room to grow. For a breather hole, simply poke a hole in the lid (1/16"-1/8"), then cover both sides of the hole with little round band-aids. This creates a good micro-pore air filter.
