Miltassia Dark Star
I purchased this Miltassia Dark Star in a 2" pot yesterday at the Seattle orchid show.
I'll be growing it indoors on a light stand or a windowsill. How should I grow it? How much light and water? I am successfully flowering mini-catts on the light stand. Will it take that much light? More? It seems to be doing well in the sphagnum. When it's ready for repotting (next year maybe?), do I keep it in sphagnum, or transfer to bark or something else? https://beta-static.photobucket.com/...080&fit=bounds Thank you, Leslie |
(Photo doesn't show) It should grow fine with your mini-Catts, perhaps a little less light if possible, but it should be OK. This group does like to be on the damp side. It's still a baby, the sphagnum is fine, especially in that little pot. When it's a little bigger your medium would depend on how much you water. When it's ready to move up to the next size of pot, perhaps small bark would be good, since a larger volume of sphag in a bigger pot will stay wetter. The goal is always "damp" but not "soggy" - it wants most air around the roots, and "soggy" drives out the air. If you love to water (I do...) then bark is better because it dries out. If you travel or otherwise don't water often, then sphagnum may be better.

Thank you for the information, Roberta.
I've edited to reinsert the photo. Does it show now? I love to water, too. |

The picture was there last evening after you re-did it. It seems to be gone again.

I've tried saving it again. That's so odd. I hope it stays visible.
