A droopy Miltonia

Once in a while I buy a box store orchid if it overtly appeals to me. I recently bought a Miltonia that looked very healthy with 3 spikes loaded with buds. I brought it home and put it in my sunroom with my other orchids. However the few blooms have not fully opened, they and the rest of the buds are limp and droopy. Its getting adequate water and sunlight. Temp is good as well as I have other orchids blooming nicely. What would be the cause of this? Ive never seen anything like this.

Do you know if it's a Miltonia or a Miltoniopsis? Seems like that might be an important distinction here. Change of conditions might be an issue. Can you give more specifics about light, temperatures, humidity, water quality, care routine, etc? What is the root system like?

I dont know if its a Miltonia or Miltoniopsis. Plenty of light as my other orchids, including Miltonia do well. Temp is 65-70. HUmidity 50%. Watered the same as my other Milts that do fine. Watered every 14 days as needed, Fertilized every other watering. What roots I can see appear fine.

A photo of the plant would go a long way in getting an ID. I can't guarantee it, but in all likelihood even a photo of the bulbs and foliage would be enough. Miltonias tend to have less foliage and be more sprawling than Miltoniopsis. Miltoniopsis have a more Pansy shaped flower, where as Miltonias tend to be more starry in shape. Of course, things get a little more blurry when it comes to intergeneric hybrids, which we can't fully rule out unless you feel that you're familiar enough with taxonomy to fully rule that option out or can provide photos of the flowers.

If literally everything about your care and your growing conditions are perfect, and it sounds like you're confident that's the case, then you have to consider the fact that these plants often go through lots of changes as they transition from ideal nursery conditions to the conditions they get in transit and possibly sitting in a retail situation. That's stressful and particularly if you have Miltoniopsis, that can certainly affect the buds and blooms because they tend to be very sensitive.

I'm going to chalk it up to stress as you have suggested being as how everything else seems to not be the cause. I'm betting the next cycle it will be fine. Thanks for your advice. Cheers
